Matthew Doherty is an internationally recognized group creative director who crafts transformative brand campaigns and consumer product experiences for some of the world’s most iconic entertainment franchises and companies, including Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Modelo Especial, and The Coca-Cola Company.
Matthew leads cross-functional teams at top-tier agencies in creating award-winning experiences that mix groundbreaking strategies with storytelling and innovation to reach new consumers and fans around the world.
Throughout his career, Matthew has been an instrumental leader in driving global digital innovation at Ogilvy, NBCUniversal, and FCB Global. At Ogilvy New York, he transformed the entire agency and its 120 offices into a world-class digital network, established one of the agency’s first social media disciplines in Chicago, and pioneered content innovation by creating some of the industry’s very first branded entertainment programs.
In 2017, Matthew was tapped to elevate mcgarrybowen's creative reputation through a digital-first approach. Since then, he has spearheaded the agency's partnership with Disney Experiences as group creative lead. In this pivotal role, Matthew has established a global portfolio of Disney brands, created new consumer products, and launched the biggest land expansions in Disney’s history, including Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, and Zootopia at Shanghai Disney Resort. Additionally, he serves as group creative lead for Diageo and the agency’s broader portfolio of global brands that have included Kraft/Heinz, Hershey’s, and The Clorox Company.
A sought-after speaker and thought leader on innovation, Matthew has been featured at high-profile industry conferences, including CES International, SXSW, Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, and Social Media Week.
Beyond his agency career, Matthew is the creator of The Envy League podcast and author of Nimbus and the Beast Within, a young adult fantasy novel written through an LGBTQ+ lens. He is passionate about fostering inclusive environments and nurturing creativity through mentorship and education. Alongside his list of Effie, One Club, Addy, Webby, and Shorty Awards, he prides himself on being an avid endurance athlete, as well as a former contestant and runner-up on The Price is Right.
